The Steel Watch Foundry has the key to defeating the Steel Watch guards in Baldur’s Gate 3. While the building is not open to visitors, gaining access involves navigating alternate pathways or picking locks on restricted doors, offering various ways to infiltrate and confront the guards patrolling the city streets.
Where to Find the Steel Watch Foundry in BG3
The Steel Watch Foundry is located all the way in the southwestern section of the Act 3 Baldur’s Gate 3 map. You need to get past the Lower City Walls and the Baldur’s Gate city portals before you eventually reach the industrial building with tons of parts for robots.
If you can, you want to get inside the Steel Watch Foundry without alerting the guards in the main city streets. Otherwise, you’ll have plenty of problems before you even get started on deactivating the robots behind so much of Gortash’s power. Luckily, there are two fairly easy ways to get in. Just make sure to bring some Thieves’ Tools
How to Enter the Steel Watch Foundry in BG3
The best way to enter the Steel Watch Foundry is to jump from the northwestern edge of the Water Queen’s House. On the map above, you can see that there is a small water line splitting the Steel Watch Foundry and the Water Queen’s House. There is just enough land for your party to continuously jump across.
However, jumping may be more difficult for some characters, or take too much health. In pur own BG3 playthrough, we used Turn-Based Mode and then had Gale cast Flight on the whole party. Then we had each character jump to the land below and fly over to the docks at the Steel Watch.
When you reach the other side, there will be at least one steel guard waiting, and a fight will begin. Get the rest of your characters over before you continue fighting. If they all made it across, you can easily deal with the one guard. Just watch out for that super annoying self-destruction when it reaches low health.
Now you can move ahead and either use the small cart lift to get inside, or you can lockpick the main doors. We just used the main doors and continued to the right side of the building from there. While in the foundry, we also noticed a couple of other paths.
Using a Lockpick to Enter the Steel Watch Foundry
For a riskier approach, you can attempt lockpicking another gate on the eastern side of the Steel Watch Foundry in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, be mindful that this method may attract increased guard attention, heightening the challenge of successfully infiltrating the premises. Simply make your way stealthily over to the eastern gate and lockpick successfully.
Using Vampire Mist to Enter the Steel Watch Foundry
Additionally, within the same area, you’ll discover a vent that offers an alternative entry for druids or those capable of transforming into vampire mist. Once you arrive at the vent, activate the vampire mist and slip through the vent. This will let you get into the Steel Watch Foundry stealthily, and avoid lockpicking in plain sight. However, the most advisable approach is still navigating the water path.
Before you go in and deactivate all the machines, make sure you already decided if you want to side with Gortash or not in Baldur’s Gate 3.
