Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Enter the Rosymorn Monastery in BG3

A completely optional area that's worth visiting.

At a certain point in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re given the choice between heading deep within the Underdark or through the Mountain Pass. Both areas contain plenty of side quests to obtain, discoveries to find, and dungeons to explore. The Rosymorn Monastery is one such location you’ll find within the Mountain Pass, but finding it is only the first problem – you’ll also have to figure out how to get inside. Continue reading to learn how to enter the Rosymorn Monastery in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Find and Get Inside the Rosymorn Monastery

The Rosymorn Monastery is located in the northeastern section of the Mountain Pass region. To get there, you’ll need to travel north and through the pathways until you reach a large cliff with a cable suspended over it. Next to the cliffside, you should see a wooden wheel.

Interacting with the wheel will initiate a Strength check with a difficulty class of 15. As such, you’ll want to use your most beefy characters to attempt the roll. Fighters and Barbarians like Lae’zel and Karlach should pass with flying colors.

Once the Strength check is passed, the wheel will spin and pull the cable lift to the party. Gather your party on the lift and ride it down to approach the Rosymorn Monastery. Check out the map below to plan your route:

Exit the cable lift and approach the waypoint, then continue heading east along the paved pathway. You’ll soon reach the main entrance of the Rosymorn Monastery.

After a brief cutscene, you’ll be near the large double doors of the Monastery. However, you’ll likely notice that they’re not only locked but impossible to lockpick. Fortunately, there are a couple of alternate entrances nearby.

Jump Through the Broken Window

Immediately to your left when looking directly at the main entrance of the Monastery, you’ll notice a pair of large, broken windows. To enter, simply approach the windows and use the Jump action to hop right through them.

After jumping through, a Kobold will enter the room and slip into a drunken slumber, completely unaware of your presence. In the next room, an entire squadron of drunken Kobolds will be scattered around the room, snoozing away around pools of spilled alcohol.

If you feel like avoiding a fight, you can sneak around the sleeping Kobolds while avoiding the ones that are still awake. Or, if you’re in the mood for some chaos, you can set the room ablaze by tossing a bomb or fire spell towards the alcohol barrels.

Either way, you’re inside the Rosymorn Monastery.

Break Open the Boarded Hole

Around the Rosymorn Monastery waypoint from before, there’s a large hole in the second floor that’s been lazily boarded up. To enter the Monastery from this route, simply climb the vines next to the waypoint, hop onto the cliffside, and approach the patched-up hole.

Smack the boards with a normal attack or toss a fireball at them to easily break them apart – but be ready for a fight. Within the next room is a large group of Gremishka’s, which are sort of anti-magic gremlin-cat-like creatures. To easily dispose of the creatures, stay on the cliffside and force them to jump towards you. The Gremishkas will spend their action points jumping toward your party and will likely group up tightly, making it a perfect opportunity for AoE damage.

Warning: Don’t Use Magic Spells

As stated above, Gremishkas have an anti-magic trait called Magical Allergy, which causes them to perform random magic attacks when a spell is cast near them. As such, try not to use any magic spells around them. Instead, hit them with physical attacks and abilities.

Once the Gremishkas are dealt with, jump through the large hole to enter the second floor of the Rosymorn Monastery.

Now that you’ve entered the Rosymorn Monastery, you should make sure to explore it thoroughly. You can open the main entrance of it from the inside, and you may end up grabbing a quest along the way for one of the game’s most legendary weapons.
