Should You Give Araj Oblodra Your Blood in BG3?

The answer is, yeah, if you like potions and strength boosts.

Who doesn’t love a woman who wants to perform arcane experiments on you? And that’s precisely what Araj Oblodora wants. You can encounter this drow arcane scientist on the Main Floor of the Moon Rise towers, just behind the kitchen.

Speak to her, and she’ll promise you a potion in exchange for a vial of your blood. So long as she gets to keep the rest, of course. But is it a good idea?

Araj, as promised, will craft a potion with your blood. And if you pass a history check and call her out on the fact that she actually wants Illithid blood, she’ll also give you a nice stack of gold for your silence. The potion she’ll then craft for you will be dependent on your race.

I play a Tiefling, so my potion was the Elixir of Tiefling Vice. This unique, one-of-a-kind potion allows you to call on diabolic arcana to cast Thaumaturgy, Hellish Rebuke, Burning Hands, and Flame Blade, each only once until your next Long Rest.

Likewise, giving Araj your blood will let you meet her in Act 3. There, she’ll give you the opportunity to drink a Mysterious Potion. If you agree, you’ll get a very unique permanent passive. She’ll also sell you a very bloody explosive for a mere 32 gold per vial. Not bad, if you like to make things go boom!

Should you Bring Astarion to Araj?

Accepting her proposal will also lead to Araj asking you to bring Astarion to her for a secret proposal. You can bring him to her, and she’ll reveal that she really, really wants to be bitten. Not because she wants to be a vampire.

The potion you’ll get in return is the Potion of Everlasting Vigour, which will permanently increase the drinker’s strength by 2.

Astarion will want to decline because her blood is rank, but if you convince him, she’ll give you a legendary potion to increase the strength of the character who drinks it permanently. The downside is a drop in Astarion’s affection. But note, he’ll want to talk to you later after you’ve had a long rest at camp. He’ll be very upset about having to bite her, and how he’s done using his body.

If you’re attempting to romance him, this is worth weighing carefully. For some, this conversation can lead to a breakup, especially if your affection isn’t very high. But it’s possible to avoid this fate with the right dialogue options.
