How to Tame Bees

There are quite a few steps required before you can tame a bee and get started collecting your own honey. First, you’ll need some bug Repellant, as well as a long range weapon, a good mount (preferably a flying mount as they are faster) and some armor. You might also want to bring another tribe member along—depending on the server settings. You should also bring some rare flowers along, to help with the taming process.

Once you’re prepared, it’s time to locate a beehive. Make your way to the redwood forest and look out for some hives on the massive redwood trees in the forest. Be wary, though, as drones can be found around hives, and they have a slowing poison that can make things dangerous if there are dangerous animals around to attack you.

With the hive located, make use of your long-range weapon to destroy it. Every two or three hits a few more bees will spawn, so be aware and take them out if needed. Once the hive is destroyed, the Queen Bee will be revealed, and she’ll slowly float down towards you, so that you can reach it. Now’s the time to pop on your Bug Repellant and then move close to the Queen Bee. Feed her the rare flowers and she’ll become tamed.

Now that the bee is tamed it’s time to turn it into a hive. To do this, simply pick up the Queen Bee and it will turn into a bee hive that can be placed down later on. Now head back to your base, find the spot you want to set your beehive up at, and place it down. To get started making your own honey, simply pop some rare flowers into the hive and then wait. If the hive happens to die, the Queen Bee will reveal herself again, allowing you to once more pick her up.

Honey has quite a few uses, and can be used in recipes, when taming animals like the Dire Bear, or even for luring animals away from areas. Now that you know how to tame bees, be sure to check out our guide on how to improve your FPS to make sure you’re getting the smoothest performance possible.
