If you remember playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 in the late 90s and early 2000s, you may remember being able to input a number of special cheat codes. If you were a fan of cheats in the original series of games, you may find yourself wondering whether those same cheat codes can be entered into the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
To help, we’ve put together a guide explaining the ways you can (and can’t) use cheats in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
What Cheat Codes Will and Will Not Work
To start, there are no cheat codes in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 that you can enter in like “L1, Circle, Right, Up, Down, Circle, Right, Up, Square, Triangle” as those types of cheats will not work in the new game.
Instead, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has turned these cheat features into optional Game Mods which you can easily toggle on or off from the main menu, no codes required.
The cheats available in the Game Mods section of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 are as follows:
- Perfect Rail Balance
- Perfect Manual Balance
- Perfect Lip Balance
- Always Special
- No Bails
Using these “cheats” can certainly make the game easier, but they come at the cost of not being able to post your high score to the game’s leaderboard. It’s a fair trade-off.
With the Game Mods option in place of cheat codes, it feels as though there are fewer overall “cheats” in the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 in comparison to the originals.
That said, the game has been updated and modernized to make things a bit more intuitive.
Playing the game without cheats at all can be nice as well as it takes us back to the days spent figuring out tricks in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games.
There was a lot less help available back then when it came to getting through the game as opposed to now where you can watch videos showing you where certain items are and how to get them.
It’s also possible that new Game Mods will be added in the future, or the door will be opened for players to create their own mods for others to use and enjoy.
Until then, there are no “cheat codes” in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. To use cheats, you’ll need to toggle them on or off in the Game Mods section located in the game’s main menu screen.
