Animal Crossing New Horizons: Wild Painting Right Half Fake vs. Real Art

Dealing with Redd in the Animal Crossing series is a time-honored tradition in realizing how little you know about art. In Animal Crossing New Horizons, you meet the latest iteration, Jolly Red, at his Redd’s Treasure Trawler ship. He wants to sell you art, but if you aren’t paying attention he’ll pull one over on you and sell you a fake. And that’s never fun to find out the hard way. One such painting is actually a set of two paintings, Wild Painting Left and Wild Painting Right. The way these are “hidden,” so to speak, is actually kinda clever.

Redd’s Treasure Trawler Wild Painting Left and Right: Real vs. Fake

Wild Painting Left and Right are based on the real-life painting “Fujin Raijin-zu” by Tawayara Sōtatsu. This painting was made on a pair of folding screens, with the left screen depicting the thunder god Raijin and the wind god Fujin on the left. Fujin is depicted as a mostly white-colored figure, while Raijin is greener. The coloring here is how Redd tries to trick you.

You’ll know Redd is selling the fake versions of these national treasures if the colors are reversed. So if Fujin (Left) is green, or Raijin (Right) is white, you know that dang fox is trying to con your dumb ass. Maybe he wouldn’t have kept doing this over the years if you hadn’t fallen for it so many times! Reverse image search is a thing now folks; there’s really no excuse anymore for this kind of nonsense.
