Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Get Rid of the Food Buff

Fruit has a ton of uses around your island in New Horizons, such as crafting themed clothing and furniture with DIY Recipes or selling it for a tidy profit. You may have never even tried to eat it.

If you do, however, it turns out that island fruit has mutagenic properties or something. You can eat up to 10 fruits at a sitting, which gives you a buff in the upper left-hand corner of your screen that can stack up to 10. For every point on that buff, you can use your shovel to pick up a tree, which places it in your inventory, or shatter a rock outright with your axe or shovel. Doing either will use up a point of the fruit buff.

It’s a useful trick to have in your back pocket when you’re trying to rearrange the local landscape, or if you want to collect some trees from a Mystery Island, but it can be a mixed blessing. Any rock that you shatter outright can no longer be used as a potential source of iron or gold nuggets. While rocks will eventually respawn on your island, it can take a few days.

It’s useful to only eat as much fruit as you need for the task at hand, but what do you do if you’ve got a few extra stacks of the fruit buff and you don’t need all that crazy fructrose strength anymore? It won’t just wear off on its own.

You could just go randomly uproot and replant a few trees, but that’s a little boring and a potential waste of your tools’ durability. Thankfully, there’s an even easier answer than that: go find a toilet somewhere on the island. When your character sits down on the old porcelain throne, you’ll lose all the remaining stacks of the fruit buff, along with a text box that says “And that takes care of that!”

This does sound like we’re kidding, but a quick trip to the bathroom is the easiest and fastest way to get rid of the food buff. Besides, after a fruit overdose, you could probably use a quick restroom visit anyway.
