A special scuba diving Pikachu has been added to Pokemon GO to celebrate the 2024 World Championships. Here are all the different ways to obtain it.
How to Encounter Scuba Diving Pikachu in Pokemon GO
The scuba diving Pikachu (officially titled World Championships 2024 Pikachu) can be encountered in a few different ways in Pokemon GO during the 2024 Pokemon World Championship Celebration event. Unfortunately, it cannot be found in the wild. You’ll have to encounter it after defeating it in a raid battle, or through event Field Research tasks during the special event.
Scuba Diving Pikachu Raids in Pokemon GO
From 10:00 A.M. on August 16 to 8:00 P.M. on August 20 (local time), the duration of the 2024 Pokemon World Championship Celebration event, scuba diving Pikachu can be encountered in one-star raid battles. As a one-star raid, Pikachu is very easy to knock out, even when battling on your own. It is weak to Ground-type attacks, so bring in Pokemon that can target its weakness.
Once you defeat Pikachu, you have the opportunity to capture it. It may run, so keep an eye on how many Premier Balls you have left. This costumed Pokemon is unlikely to return after this event, so don’t be afraid to toss some Razz Berries at it to make it easier to capture.
Scuba Diving Pikachu Event Field Research Tasks in Pokemon GO
During the 2024 Pokemon World Championship Celebration event in Pokemon GO, certain Field Research tasks will reward you with a scuba diving Pikachu encounter for completing them. The following event Field Research tasks have a guaranteed encounter with scuba diving Pikachu as a reward:
- Power up Pokemon 15 times,
- and Battle in the GO Battle League 5 times.
The Field Research task “Win a raid” may also include an encounter with a scuba diving Pikachu as a reward, but it has just as much chance of having an encounter with Mienfoo instead. On the bright side, Mienfoo now has a chance to be shiny in Pokemon GO, so you may encounter a shiny one if you complete this task but don’t encounter scuba diving Pikachu.
Can Scuba Diving Pikachu be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
Yes, whenever you encounter the scuba diving Pikachu in Pokemon GO, it has a rare chance to be shiny. If you encounter this Pikachu in its shiny coloration after a raid, you are guaranteed to capture it, so save your Razz Berries and use a Pinap Berry on it instead. If this costumed Pikachu never makes another appearance after the 2024 Pokemon World Championship Celebration event, it may end up as one of the rarest shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
