All New Abilities in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Link disproves the Pauli Exclusion Principle in one easy step

We’ve seen quite a few gameplay videos and trailers of Tears of the Kingdom so far, and Link has been flexing some interesting new abilities. Here’s all the new abilities in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom that we know about (so far).

All New Abilities in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

If there’s one thing that Link’s always been good at, it’s using tools (or his magical abilities, granted by super tech) to solve puzzles and fight enemies. That trend continues in Tears of the Kingdom.

So far, we have five new abilities, some of which are brand new. Others are riffs on things we’ve seen before in Breath of the Wild, but with a brand new spin.

Recall

A new temporal ability, Link can now rewind time. This allows him to cross through doors that close too fast, take a trip on a rock that recently fell from the air, or even send a projectile hurling back at an enemy.

Fuse

Fuse is an interesting take on crafting, with the focus on his weapons and shields. One of the funnest combinations I’ve found so far is fusing a cart to Links shield, which will let you skateboard around Hyrule. Shield surfing is so 2017.

Additionally, you can fuse items to your arrows, like Keese Eyes to increase accuracy or bombs to damage walls or enemies. Or you can fuse a rock to a stick in order to get a mallet strong enough to clear out rubble.

Ultrahand

While Fuse might be all about weapon and shield crafting, Ultrahand is all about fusing together inanimate objects. You can create gliders, you can create a korok death machine. The world is your oyster, but you should expect to use this ability a lot. It features in nearly every other quest you’ll encounter, including shrine puzzles.

Ascend

Another very useful ability Link gains is Ascend. This ability allows Link to ascend through any place with a ceiling. That includes buildings and even caves. This makes it much easier to climb mountains or get to the next floor. Especially in places like the Depths, this ability is invaluable.

Autobuild

Links final new ability is Autobuild. This takes advantage of all the new machinery Link can build and power with Zonaite charges. Here’s how it works.

Once you unlock this ability by getting to a certain part in the quest “A Call from the Depths”, the builds you make with Ultrahand will be retained in your arm’s memory. You can use Autobuild to build that structure again anytime, so long as you have the materials nearby and the Zonaite to power it. For example, a car might cost nine Zonaite to build.

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite abilities because it really saves some time. I can’t begin to count how many minutes I wasted rotating a board to try and get it just right. And while it’s a little difficult to get it, you can technically do it pretty early on. Just head to the Temple of Time south of Lookout Landing.
