All Mortal Kombat 11 Robocop Skins Confirmed

This morning’s Aftermath trailer launched alongside a guest post on the official PlayStation blog from Brendan George, lead character artist at Netherrealm Studios. He was there to write about his love for Robocop, which was used to fuse as many references into his MK11 guest appearance as possible.

George also brought along several advanced looks at the extra skins that Robocop will be sporting when he lands as part of MK11’s Aftermath DLC. Robocop’s default look, as shown on the official Mortal Kombat website, is the gray steel chassis from the 1987 movie. He’ll also get a blued variation of the suit, to match his coloration from 1990’s Robocop 2.

His third look, shown exclusively on the blog, is an original look designed by MK11’s art team. It’s patterned after Mortal Kombat’s Cyber Lin Kuei, which turns Robocop into a cyberninja, thus unifying the entirety of the ’80s and ’90s into a single pop-cultural juggernaut. He’s a cyborg policeman and a ninja. Watch out, crime.

If Robocop matches the pattern set by the other MK11 guest characters so far, he’ll have at least two more genuinely different skins, and the rest will feature an assortment of recolors and battle damage. Fans are already posting images from early code of recolors of the cyberninja skin that are reflective of MK’s established Cyber Lin Kuei, like Cyrax and Sektor. If I had to guess, I’d bet we’ll see the more streamlined suit from the 2014 Robocop reboot and the “discount Iron Man” look from the much-maligned Robocop 3. (Long shot option: the assembly-line suit from Frank Miller and Walter Simonson’s 1992 comic, Robocop Versus the Terminator.)

This morning’s MK11 trailer gave a lot of brief looks at what Robocop is capable of in Mortal Kombat 11. He’s got his Cobra Assault Cannon and data spike in hand, with ED-209 for backup, along with some new takes on the equipment he received in the later two movies. His flamethrower attachment from Robocop 3 is now wrist-mounted, and he’s entering the MK11 fray with access to a collapsible riot shield that functions as both a parry and a method to block incoming projectiles.

We don’t know anything else at time of writing about how Robocop will play. He’ll enter the game with three official variations, three cosmetic items you can change out at will (presumably two will be his pistol and the Cobra rifle), and an assortment of customizable special moves, but you know that if he doesn’t move like a glacier, he’s not really Robocop. We’ll keep rolling with updates as we learn more.

As we get closer to the debut of Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC, we’re covering everything we can about MK, including:

Mortal Kombat 11 has gone from a massive horror crossover to dragging in many of the giants of late 20th-century action movies. It’s hard to imagine where they could go next, although they might as well toss in John McClane at this rate. The only problem is that he really ought to narrowly escape every Fatality attempt by the skin of his teeth.
