Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are small isolated instances where you solve problems using Link’s new powers and Zonai technology. Not quite the dungeons from the Zelda games of the past, but they will most often give you that sense of achievement when you figure something out and hear that familiar sound effect. There are 152 shrines in the game, most of which are on the surface map of Hyrule, about 30 on the Sky map, while there are none at all in the Depths.

Each Shrine in the game has its own special name and theme, while at the beginning of the game, they will serve as tutorial zones to teach you how to use Link’s new powers and mechanics, later they become very complex puzzles that will often require players to combine many techniques and think outside of the box.

In addition to unlocking the exit from the Shrine, which is necessary for successful completion, each Shrine also contains a hidden treasure chest that is a little harder to reach – as a special challenge. Completing each Shrine yields one Light of Blessing. Similar to Spirit Orbs in Breath of the Wild, they are used to increase your health or stamina bar. Praying to the Goddess Statues and offering 4 Lights of Blessing will give you one additional Heart Container or increase the Stamina bar a little bit. Also, you want to complete as many Shrines as possible because each one can be used as a quick travel teleport location.
