All Dead Space Remake Difficulty Modes – Listed

"Nobody said it was easy, It's such a shame I've been torn apart"

The Dead Space Remake officially launched on January 27, 2023 with a multitude of new features for gamers to explore on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Alongside the secret ending, improved graphics, and new content, one of the most interesting new facets in Electronic Arts and Motive Studio’s remake of the 2008 sci-fi survival horror classic is that there are new difficulties and even some difficulty alterations that help make Dead Space a fresh experience, even for returning masters. Here are all of the difficulties found in the Dead Space Remake and their descriptions.

Story Difficulty in the Dead Space Remake

Story Difficulty is the new easy mode, replacing “Easy” as the least challenging mode in Dead Space. According to the description of Story Difficulty, “Isaac deals much more damage, takes much less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts much longer. Isaac also heals automatically, and enemy grappling attacks are much easier to escape.”

Easy Difficulty in the Dead Space Remake

While Easy Difficulty was formerly the lowest challenge setting, it is now second in that regard. According to the description of Easy Difficulty, “Isaac deals more damage and takes less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts somewhat longer. Enemy grappling attacks are somewhat easier to escape.”

Medium Difficulty in the Dead Space Remake

Just like its 2008 counterpart, Medium Difficulty is the base game setting of Dead Space. According to the description of Medium Difficulty, “Enemies and Isaac both take baseline damage.”

Impossible Difficulty in the Dead Space Remake

Last, but certainly not least is the new Impossible Difficulty, which has been overhauled from the original Dead Space into more of a permadeath mode. According to the description, Impossible Difficulty is, “A special challenge mode. Completing it will earn a unique suit and weapon. This mode has the same damage settings as Hard Difficulty, but autosaves are disabled; only one save slot is available, and one life. Dying prompts a full restart, or continuing on Hard Difficulty.” Completing Impossible Mode will provide its conquerors with the “Untouchable” PlayStation trophy or Xbox achievement, but will surely provide gamers with a challenge and possibly some frustration on their way to the platinum or 1,000 Gamerscore.
