RIG 900 MAX HX Headset Review

The RIG 900 MAX HX is the headset I never knew I needed, and it quickly became one of my favorite gaming accessories I use daily. The second I booted it up, I was immediately hooked on how comfortable it was, the flexibility it offered, and how clear the audio was. Even though it’s a great headset, it may be out of reach for many due to its price tag.

Even though the headset may appear a bit bulky at first glance, don’t let it fool you because it’s incredibly flexible and can be altered in size to fit the biggest of heads, such as mine. When you first take it out of the box, you’ll immediately need to start assembling it, which only took me a minute. Mainly because I only needed to snap the earphones on the correct head size and plug in the universal adapter. The expansion of the top cushions on the headband is a nice touch. It made the headset fit snug and comfortable atop my head.

As flexible as it is, the RIG 900 MAX HX is also extremely sturdy. The light metal headband does a phenomenal job of holding everything together, and there was never a moment where something had to be reattached. 

Meanwhile, the earcups are some of the most comfortable ones I have ever worn and do a great job of canceling noise. As someone who tends to have long gaming sessions, I never once found the need to readjust them or have one off my ear so it wouldn’t feel smothered. You’ll find the command center for the RIG 900 MAX HX on the back of the left earcup. Here, a series of buttons allow you to change through channels and adjust the volume, and a USB slot where you can charge it.

Every time you press a button to navigate the settings, you’ll hear a voice or audio cue telling you what channel you’re on, the button you just pressed, the battery life, or how high the volume is. Admittedly, it took me a few minutes to know what button did what, but the built-in voice made it significantly easier to jump between settings.

The box proudly advertises that it has 50 hours of battery life, which sure felt like it. Once I opened it up, I turned it on immediately and was informed via the headset that the battery was on “medium.” That alone lasted me roughly a week and a half before the battery got too “low.” As of writing this, I’ve only charged the headset once, and it’s running strong.

The RIG 900 MAX HX has two separate ways to charge it. The first method requires you to plug in a USB-C cable to the back slot of the left earcup, and you’ll know it’s charging if you see a light above the power sign. But if you want to charge it the other way, you’ll need to dock it on the base station that the headset comes with, and when the two connect, a light will flash to let you know it’s working.

The mic worked well, and I had no issue whatsoever. My friends could hear me clearly, and the microphone did great at not picking up extra noise around my room. And not once did I hear “Hey, who’s snacking right now,” or anything of that nature when I ate while playing. On top of that, it was easy to mute and unmute myself with a simple flick of the microphone arm up and down.

When it came to hearing gameplay audio, I had no issue with it. Everything sounded extremely crisp, such as turning on my chainsaw in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, hearing bones crack in Mortal Kombat 1, or listening to where enemies are running to in Fortnite. What makes things even better is that it comes with Dolby Atmos, which can enhance your audio experience. 

As much as I enjoyed using this headset, its price range can repel many people away. The RIG 900 MAX HX sits at $250, almost what an Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch cost. But even though it’s a bit pricey, it’s worth it for those looking for a stable, comfortable headset with fantastic audio.

The RIG 900 MAX HX is an amazing headset. It has different settings that users can use, and the built-in audio cues make navigating so much easier. Its sound is some of the most clear audio I’ve heard while gaming and is highly comfortable to wear for any gaming session you plan on doing. On top of that, having Dolby Atmos is a nice touch to enhance your experience further.
