If you want to experience Yakuza: Like a Dragon on next-gen hardware, you’ll be able to do that on Xbox Series X/S on November 10, 2020. If you can’t wait for the PlayStation 5 version, you’ll be able to pick up the PlayStation 4 version in November and upgrade to the PS5 version free of charge when it releases.

Sega details this in their press release, which can be viewed below.

“SEGA is happy to announce that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be launching on PlayStation®5 in the West on March 2, 2021, following the game’s PlayStation®4 launch on November 10, 2020. Once players purchase the digital PS4™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon at PlayStation®Store they are able to download the PS5™ version at no extra cost when it launches on March 2, 2021. The PS5™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also be available standalone on March 2, 2021 for $59.99, with commensurate pricing in EMEA.

An experience like no other, Yakuza: Like a Dragon brings dynamic RPG gameplay to the streets of Yokohama, Japan, with an epic adventure that combines the intense brawls, crushing drama, and over the top hilarity that the Yakuza series is known for. The game also features voice acting from a dynamic cast of actors, including George Takei, Kaiji Tang, Andrew Morgado, Greg Chun and Elizabeth Maxwell.”

The free PlayStation 5 upgrade will be for both digital and physical editions of the PlayStation 4 version. Players do not have to worry about which version fo the game they purchase.

The wait for Yakuza: Like a Dragon is only a few months away. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled here for more Yakuza coverage when the game releases. The game features a brand new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga who, similar to Kiryu Kazuma, also served a lengthy jail sentence for something he didn’t do.

Now he’s back in Kamurocho to try and get to the bottom of this. Yakuza: Like a Dragon shows its commitment to the absurd hijinks of the franchise despite the change in both protagonist and combat system.
