Though Sony and Microsoft are competitors in the war of consoles, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has been working tirelessly to bridge the gap between platforms. With continued work with Nintendo and Valve, as well as the barrier between Xbox and PC becoming non-existent, it’s obvious to see that Spencer is all about the gaming experience and it’s because of that philosophy that he opened up by saying E3 just wasn’t the same without a big PlayStation showcase.
During a recent Giant Bomb livestream talking about E3 2019, Spencer took to the stage to talk about this year and how “E3 is not as good when they’re not here.” It’s a genuine gesture, especially on the heels of a very boast-worthy showcase themselves. The Keanu Reeves cameo was something no one expected and the look at Halo Infinite was nothing to scoff at either!
Though Sony’s absence was very much felt throughout the community, it will be interesting to see what next year will bring. Sony has already said that they will be at next year’s showcase if they have enough to share, which means E3 2020 may be an entirely new ballgame with the next generation of consoles on the horizon.
