Loading times are a thing of the past with the Xbox Series X and how it tackles resuming gameplay. Earlier this week, Microsoft revealed a ton of new, and deeper, tech information regarding the next generation of gaming including how the next-gen will tackle load times.
One of the few appeals that Google Stadia has is how it virtually eliminates load times, something the Xbox Series X will also tackle. Thanks to a recent podcast with Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, Xbox Live’s director of programming for the Xbox Live division talked about how rebooting will no longer impact the gameplay experience:
“I had to reboot because I had a system update and then I went back to the game and went right back to it. So it [definitely] survives a reboot.”
He then mentioned about how this same rule applies to when a console goes in standby mode, which is great news especially with the high rise of online game saturation in the current gaming market, though server connectivity will stay play a part, but it’s nice to know that among the many features next-gen will have that reduced load times is one of them (looking at you, Dragon Age).
We’ve learned a lot about both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X over the last several months, though we’ve yet to see what the PS5 will actually look like. With so many cancellations from the Sony camp regarding public showcases, it remains to be seen when we’ll actually get to peep that hardware, especially with the news that they have withdrawn from PAX, GDC, and E3 both due to the coronavirus and internal philosophy.
