Now that Sony has confirmed that they will be opting out of E3 again this year, Xbox head Phil Spencer took a moment to confirm that they will still be there. Now I know internet trolls are going to make that juxtaposition some stupid war, but last year’s Xbox showcase was incredible with Cyberpunk 2077, new studio announcements, and finally some Halo Infinite.
The Xboss himself took to Twitter for the confirmation, saying “Our team is hard at work on E3, we look forward to sharing with all who love to play what’s ahead for us. Our artform has consistently been propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress. 2020 is a milestone year in that journey for Team Xbox.”

Since we’ve gotten our first real look at the next generation of Xbox during the Video Game Awards last year, this year’s showcase will most likely dive more into specs and launch titles. 343 Industries also confirmed last year that E3 2019’s showcase would be the last anyone saw of Halo: Infinite until the following year, so a new trailer, release date and possible collector’s edition details could also be there.
E3 has been steadily declining through the years and that decline became much more rapid when the showcase became open to the public. With the massive ESA leak last year that put thousands of journalists and content creators at risk and the company still remaining mum on that fact, it’s clear that an irreparable shift has happened regarding E3 and its relation to the gaming community. It will be interesting to see how the ESA handles the show this year.
