Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Goes Free-To-Play

Free-to-play gaming on consoles just got a lot more interesting, especially with Naughty Dog at the reins.

The developer, in conjunction with Sony, has announced today that the multiplayer for its hit game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has gone free-to-play.  Yep, PlayStation Network users everywhere will be able to take on each other in competitive multiplayer, up to level 15, free of charge.  The mode will feature several maps and weapons to choose from, so there’ll be no shortage of action for you.

However, you do still need to pay for certain frills with the game.  If you want the level cap removed, you’ll need to plunk down $20.  You’ll also need to pay $5 if you want the level cap raised to 25.  And if you want co-op support, you’ll need to pay $9.99 for the co-op arena, and $11.99 for co-op adventure.  Or you can just buy the whole package, single player included, in the Game of the Year Edition for $39.99.

The multiplayer is a great deal of fun, so you can always check it out and see if it sticks with you before making a long-term investment in the whole deal.  But, honestly, Uncharted 3 is so much fun altogether, it’s worth purchasing.

The free-to-play goes live today when the PlayStation Network store updates, which should be by the time you read this.
