Last year, Ubisoft confirmed that their pirate game Skull and Bones hit another major delay and since then, back in May of 2019, word has been very quiet on the fate of the game leading many to wonder if it’s DOA. Thankfully, the studio is still working hard on it and confirmed that dedication in a pretty humorous way.

When looking for a few new Discord servers to join, I stumbled upon one for Skull and Bones. Being insanely curious about the state of the game after numerous vague responses from the dev team, I dove right in and I’m so glad I did. In Disord, users can see a variety of voice and text chat channels to enjoy and Ubisoft’s is no different. What’s funny, however, is one particular channel aptly named “Game Is Not Dead!”

That’s certainly one way to confirm the good news. Here’s also a screenshot I took for good measure because even if you’re not in Discord, you still deserve to smile:

As if the name wasn’t funny enough, one of the first GIF responses to the channel that was created at the very end of March perfectly encapsulates the feeling thus far. For those that may not know, Ubisoft went live with an update in May of last year saying that the game has been pushed back until after 2019 and possibly 2020. According to the Discord, that date is now pushed to 2021 and the continued protective measures against COVID-19 probably isn’t helping anything.

Luckily, it seems like the teams are in good spirits and can poke fun at all of the inquiries, but one thing is for sure: we need this game! Announced shortly after Sea of Thieves, many were looking forward to the realistic pirate adventure and were saddened to hear of the continuous delays. That being said, the gameplay mechanics look incredibly concise, which makes the special attention to development more valuable as to avoid any major glitches when the game eventually launches.

As for the game itself, Skull and Bones promises an experience rooted in the Golden Age of Piracy, a time where captains became ruthless and warships dominated the oceans with a ferocity that made the thirst for war and defeat insatiable. Players will become that insatiable captain that refuses the King’s pardon, therefore instead undertaking an adventure of treasure and power untaimed by complicit society. It looks like a treat and from little we’ve played of it previously, very addictive.

Hopefully, we’ll get a new, concrete Skull and Bones release date soon! Until then, enjoy the Discord and the memes! Thoughts of what we’ve seen thus far of Skull and Bones and the delays? Sound off with what you think over on Twitter @PrimaGames!
