Tom Holland’s Uncharted Movie Has Officially Begun Filming

Update: A Sony rep issued a statement stating that the film hasn’t quite started filming yet, but is ready to begin “soon.”

Tom Holland’s Uncharted movie has gone through so many directors we’ve lost count, not to mention the numerous delays that made many think this adaptation may not ever see the light of day. It looks like that bad luck may finally be a thing of the past, because the actor portraying a much younger Nathan Drake has confirmed the Uncharted movie has begun filming. 

Earlier this month, Holland shared a sneak preview of his character a younger Drake with a hilarious little snipped, but following that video, he also confirmed that filming has officially begun. In the video he also joked and asked his makeup artist “what have you done” when testing his “floppy” hair moves. It’s all light-hearted and typical Holland and honestly? He’s a dead ringer for a younger Drake, this movie could have potential in the right hands.

Now, if only we could get a proper Dragon Age movie …

As far as other casting choices go, Mark Wahlberg is set to play a younger Sully, a move that Drake’s voice actor himself – Nolan North – took issue with back in April. While the actor has been mostly mum about the film adaptation, he did mention in a podcast earlier his year that he just “can’t see him” as Sully. Though he promised it was nothing personal against the actor himself, the discontent around this particular casting choice is one felt by many, not just North.

It will be interesting to see what creative direction this Uncharted movie goes in. Previous director Dan Trachtenberg previously mentioned that they have no plans to copy and paste the videogame formula to this film, instead making it a new experience that serves to set up nicely for the games themselves. “If Naughty Dog so chose to make another Uncharted game featuring Nate and Sully… this movie’s story is probably the story that they would want to tell,” he added, which gave a small boost of confidence in fans despite him no longer being attached to this project.
