The Plucky Squire was originally revealed nearly two years ago and finally has a release date of September 2024. It’s coming to multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and PC, but there is a small catch. The developers have announced today that the physical version of The Plucky Squire will not be available at launch but at a later date.
The Plucky Squire Physical Edition Delayed from Release
The Plucky Squire is coming to PC, Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2024, but only as a digital release. All Possible Futures announced today on Twitter that while they’d love to release the physical versions at launch, they’re still working on getting those ready and need more time.
No further details were provided, but at least we know that it’s not skipping the format entirely. Physical collectors will just have to wait at least a few months.
Devolver Digital titles usually take a while before they’re ready for physical release, if at all. This year’s 2D action-platformer Pepper Grinder from Ahr Ech still isn’t available in the physical format, and it is due in October 2024. That’s almost six months from its release in March 2024, and we expect The Plucky Squire to potentially follow a similar timeline.
The developers have confirmed in their release date announcement that The Plucky Squire will take players around 8-10 hours to complete in the initial playthrough, which is far more than they had originally planned for the title. Even compared to other titles published by Devolver Digital, this is a bit longer.
It’s an ambitious title, and there’s a lot of anticipation for it as well. It’s also coming day one to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription service which is another thing Devolver Digitals aren’t known for, at least at launch.
