The Last Of Us Part 1 was released on PC this week, and fans have discovered some horrifying issues while playing on the Steam Deck. We’ve seen some nightmare-inducing glitches and bugs from other games in the past, but there’s something special about this case.
The Last of Us Part 1 Running on Steam Deck is Nightmare Fuel
After the success of the original game, Part 2, and the HBO television series, The Last of Us Part 1 was primed to bring a whole new audience to the game, and plenty of fans eager to play on PC were finally brought into the fold. However, the game has some serious shader issues, and the results can be jarring. After seeing our one true daddy Pedro Pascal playing the role of Joel in the HBO series, this might be hard to look at.
No one knows who this man is because it certainly isn’t Joel Miller. This cryptid-looking man seems straight out of a From Software character creator. Surely this can’t be the man we’ve grown and loved over the last decade. This looks like Agent 47 from the Hitman series trying his god damn best to pretend to be Joel Miller.
These aren’t the only technical problems the game is running into both on Steam Deck and on your standard PC.
There’s also a video going around showcasing a bunch of character models becoming wet for no reason. Maybe they are really sweaty from how nervous they are, but who knows? Either way, this launch is a cacophony in weird textural and visual bugs.

Players have also reported incredibly long load times for shaders to initiate in the game. While this isn’t nearly as funny as the above two problems, it’s frustrating the community.
People have always found The Last of Us to be a bit scary at times, but nothing has prepared us for these technical bugs. Naughty Dog has stated it’s working on fixes for these technical mishaps, but we will never be able to unsee the truly unspeakable horrors of fake Joel Miller.
It’s like an AI bot did its best approximation of what it thinks Joel should look like. I don’t know who that man is, and I would not let him anywhere near Ellie. If you’ve decided to embrace the true darkness and play through the PC version anyway, check out our full walkthrough of the game.
