The Super Mario movie by Illumination is set to hit theaters in April, but after an announcement from the team, the original April 7, 2023 date is no more. Instead the Super Mario Movie will now release on April 5 in the United States.

“Wahoo! The #SuperMarioMovie is moving from April 7 to April 5 in the US and in more than 60 markets around the world. The movie hits theaters in additional markets in April and May, with Japan opening April 28.”

April 7, 2023 is a Friday, which means the move to a Wednesday release can extend the opening weekend box office numbers. however, the reason for the push in date is still unclear at this time.

So if you’re planning to see the Super Mario Movie on release day, get ready to go to the theater on a Wednesday. We’re not sure how Mario and Luigi got off of their plumbing work in the middle of the week, but hey, we’re not here to judge.

There have been a few trailers for the movie, and it’s shaping up to be an interesting ride. With Chris Pratt playing Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, there’s no telling where these performances will go.

There are plenty of cool easter eggs and hidden references for players to find in the trailers and full release. From Mario Kart to Donkey Kong’s arena, fans of the series will have a lot to chew on.

The Super Mario Movie will release on April 5, 2023 in the United States. The Japanese release date is April 28, 2023.
