As EVO Japan came to a close, Capcom dropped the latest trailer for Akuma in Street Fighter 6, the description of the video confirming that Akuma will join Street Fighter 6 as DLC on May 22, 2024.

In addition to the release date confirmation, the video shows off his new, somehow even more terrifying look; his Outfit 2, which is his original garb from Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo; and an especially horrifying Raging Demon at the very end.

It isn’t explicitly confirmed to be the case, but it is more likely than not that Akuma’s Outfit 2 will be available optionally for purchase as well as unlockable through World Tour Mode like all other characters’ Outfit 2s so far.

The arrival of Akuma marks the end of the first set of DLC fighters, which also include returning characters Ed and Rashid, and the newcomer A.K.I. This release also continues Akuma’s inclusion in every Street Fighter game since his introduction in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. It’s currently unknown how many more DLC characters will be added from here on out, nor is it known who will be joining next.

Street Fighter 5, which was off to a much worse start than the highly acclaimed Street Fighter 6, ended up getting an incredible 30 DLC fighters over the course of its seven-year lifespan. The starting roster of Street Fighter 5 is only two fighters fewer than Street Fighter 6 (16 as opposed to 18, respectively). So while the exact future of Street Fighter 6’s DLC is unknown, it’s a safe guess that it will follow in Street Fighter 5’s footsteps and receive even more DLC fighters before we know it.

Part of Street Fighter 6’s DLC will include character costumes. The DLC characters don’t have Outfit 3s yet, but will in the future. The starting roster’s Outfit 3s are currently available.
