The upcoming 1.6 update for Stardew Valley is already looking to be a fan-favorite, even though it’s still in development. The 1.6 update was initially announced by Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone on April 16, 2023, as an update “mostly…for modders (which will make it easier & more powerful to mod).” But it won’t be skimping out on content, including features that were once exclusive to mods.

The “Pet Hats” mod for Stardew Valley, made by Nexus Mods user aedenthorn, has gotten over 27,000 views and more than 5,000 unique downloads since its release at the tail end of January 2023. It seems like a similar feature to allow pets to don hats will become an official part of Stardew Valley in the upcoming 1.6 update.

ConcernedApe posted one very simple message to Twitter on October 5: “Hats on cats (and dogs).” Accompanying the message is an image of two cats and two dogs, each adorned with a different piece of headwear. Although no mention of the 1.6 update was made alongside this Tweet, it’s a safe guess that hats for pets will be part of the 1.6 update’s many features.

Among the confirmed features for the upcoming update are a new major festival and two new mini festivals, an undisclosed number of new items and crafting recipes, over 100 new lines of dialogue, winter outfits for the villagers, a new farm type, and even 8-player multiplayer support for the PC version of the game. These massive additions will be accompanied by “new secrets and more.” Considering the immensely positive fan response to ConcernedApe’s “Hats on cats (and dogs)” Tweet, hats for pets would be a wonderful addition to this already exciting update.
