Chris Avellone is a busy man in the industry, hard at work on several major IPs including that of Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Beloved for his contribution to games like Fallout: New Vegas, his craft with words makes him a notable name in the industry. It looks like, despite his heavy plate, Avellone has his sights set on a few other franchises, namely that of Blizzard’s Overwatch and CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher series.
Avellone recently sat down with the team over at Video Games Chronicle, “In my career, I’ve had the chance to work on Fallout, World of Darkness, Dying Light 2, Planescape, System Shock… it’s been really, really good. feel like I’ve worked on — or am currently working on — all of the game series that I really enjoy or love. The Witcher would be cool, now that I think about it… that would be very cool! I don’t know if there are any ambitions beyond that for me, other than The Witcher.”
He added, “Overwatch would be fun too. I worked with Michael Chu, their lead narrative designer, at Obsidian and I really like his writing. I really love writers who when I read their work I don’t have any comments. He’s a good writer and I love the characterization in that game. I’m a comic book nerd so seeing superheroes in a game environment warms my heart,”
Overwatch, despite what it may look like at first glance, is much more than just a simple shooter. With animated shorts, comic series, events, and even subtleties like interacting voicelines – this FPS from Blizzard has some major narrative backbone despite first appearances. To see someone like Avellone attached to that would be incredible, though we know he’s very busy right now with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Dying Light 2.
