During Sony’s Future of Gaming livestream, Insomniac Games officially revealed Spider-Man Miles Morales, a sequel to the original Marvel’s Spider-Man. Further, the Spider-Man sequel will be released on the PlayStation 5 Holiday 2020.
The sequel features Mile Morales as the main protagonist and is the first game published by Insomniac Games since the studio was officially acquired by Sony. At the time of writing, it is unclear if Spider-Man Miles Morales will be released as a PlayStation 5 launch title, but it seems likely given the timing of its release.
The footage shown during the PS5 event shows Miles in his own Spider-Man suit and showcases a few of his abilities, one of which looks like he is capable of turning invisible. It seems that the sequel will focus on Miles’s journey to become a hero, but Sony did not reveal any more plot points surrounding the upcoming sequel during the event. However, with the game set to launch in a few short months, we will likely get more info on the Spider-Man sequel soon.
You can watch the official reveal trailer for Spider-Man Miles Morales in the video below:
In the original game, Miles Morales is fairly tech-savvy and has a big interest in science and technology, so it won’t be surprising if we see him with some cool new tech in the sequel. For those not familiar with the comics, Miles Morales eventually becomes Spider-Man’s successor. However, in the main story of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Morales only appears as a playable character and doesn’t have a very big role. Towards the end of the main story, he is bitten by an Oscorp spider, giving him his powers and unofficially setting up the sequel. Towards the end of the game, Peter gives Miles a few basic lessons on how to web-swing but warns him against using his powers.

However, in The City That Never Sleeps DLC we learn that Morales accidentally uses his powers during a pickup basketball game, which results in Peter eventually agreeing to give Miles more lessons on how to use his powers. Despite all of this, Miles has a pretty minor role in the DLC, so it’ll be nice to finally see him step into the spotlight.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was a major success for the PlayStation 4 in 2018 so it’s not too surprising that Sony has tasked Insomniac with making a sequel. The game has become the best selling superhero video game of all time, with over 13 million copies sold globally. For more on the original Spider-Man game, be sure to check out our preview.
