Should We Expect a New Uncharted Movie in 2025/26?

Do you want to see another Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland collaboration?

If you’re a fan of the video game adaptation, Uncharted, and you want to see more of Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, better known as Sully, on the big screen again, you could be in luck and should keep hope alive for Uncharted Part 2.

Following the great success of Uncharted at the box office, starring Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland, many want to know if there will be an Uncharted 2 coming soon. On a budget of $120 million, Uncharted pulled in a whopping $337 million worldwide following its release, almost tripling its budget. Despite its successful box office run in early 2022, critics were still not pleased with the movie, giving it a wide range of positives and negatives.

Thankfully, not paying attention to the critics and because of its monetary gain, it appears as though Sony might be ready to start working on Uncharted Part 2. However, Sony has yet to officially confirm this before we can celebrate the coming of a second feature.

What keeps the hope alive, though, are the promising words from the producer of the movie, Charles Roven. He had this to say about the possible making of Uncharted 2:

“We had a really good time with that movie.

“The fans really liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game really liked the movie. So we are definitely looking to make another one of those.”

Another promising sign that we’ll indefinitely get a sequel was the cliffhanger at the end of the movie, where we saw Nathan Drake’s (Tod Holland) brother, Sam Drake, in a prison cell. He is thought to be dead in the movie and the game. So we’re well in line with the game’s storyline and on track for another possible box-office banger.

Predicting the potential release dates of any movie coming out in the near or distant future is difficult due to the ongoing Hollywood writer’s strike. Uncharted’s sequel is no exception to this. Despite the lack of confirmation from the movie’s publisher, Sony, and the setbacks caused by the strike, it’s predicted that Uncharted 2 could be released in 2025 or 2026.

As mentioned earlier, the movie should involve Nathan Drake’s brother, Sam. Thanks to this, it gives us a little idea of what we could expect from the next installation. We could see an adaptation of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. There will probably be lots of prequel scenes of the two brothers before the split, and we could find out what actually happened between Sully and Sam.

If they choose to run with a similar theme to the game, they will be searching for the treasure of Captain Henry Avery and Thomas Tew, which will lead them to a remote and secret island called Turtle Island, as it’s referred to in the game.

Rudy Pankow will probably assume his role as the older Sam in the movie. If he doesn’t, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, George MacKay, Jamie Bell, Taron Egerton, or Zac Efron have all been earmarked as suitable candidates for the role of the rugged, long-lost Sam Drake.
