During the Resident Evil Village Showcase event, Capcom announced the release date for the eighth core entry in its historic survival horror series. Resident Evil Village will launch, or is currently set to launch, on May 7, 2021. But that wasn’t all the news accompanying this announcement. And I’m not talking about today’s preorder launch.
In addition to the previously-announced current-gen console versions, Capcom has delivered on what the team previously hinted it was trying to do. So Resident Evil Village will be coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well, day and date. Additionally, both platforms will be upgradable for free. So if you don’t have a new console yet, you can still visit this Village on the boxes you have now.
Various editions of Resident Evil Village were also revealed, which is more or less par for the course with major game releases. There’s the Digital Deluxe Edition, which you can get on any platform and receive various in-game bonuses. For consoles, there’s also a Collector’s Edition which includes the usual steelbook case, art book, and statue. This time it’s of longtime protagonist Chris Redfield.
Finally, all pre-orders will come with some small in-game bonuses to start players off, and if you preorder Resident Evil Village digitally you’ll get a mini soundtrack as an additional bonus.
