The upcoming western-themed RPG Red Dead Redemption 2 will have an assortment of different animal species for players to hunt and capture, according to Rockstar. Today, the developer revealed that the game will feature over 200 species of animals, each reacting to their environment in unique ways.
The wide range of animal species will have an impact on your ability to hunt and fish, which are crucial skills for survival in Red Dead Redemption 2. Hunting wildlife can provide you with useful resources like hides or meat, which can be used for crafting or butchered and loaded onto your horse to be sold to a merchant in town for a profit.
Each type of animal will respond uniquely to its surroundings, which means you will have to consider the environmental context when trying to hunt or track animals in the game. Some animals may be nocturnal, will hunt in packs, or will leave tracks for you to follow.
The wilderness is at once a bountiful and perilous place, for both man and beast, and any predator can quickly turn prey.

Among the 200 different animal species are 19 breeds of horses for players to choose from, ranging from Appaloosas to Mustangs. Each breed of horse will have its own distinct characteristics and must be handled a certain way. On top of the various horse breeds, there are 59 coat styles to choose from and a variety of customizable tack options as well.
