Ubisoft has brought even more new content to Rainbow Six Siege with the Shifting Tides update that went live on PC test servers this morning. But it’s not just map changes that are happening, Shifting Tides also brings with it two new operators: Kali and Wamai. Hope you like Snipers, because the Defender is definitely not going to be a hit with everyone – though we think he’s pretty nifty.

The two new operators are Kai, the Attacker, and Wamai, the Defender. For those that like that long-range shot, Kali is the Sniper for you. Her bolt-action sniper is her key to success and her firepower means walls basically mean nothing. Pair that with her LV Explosive Lance, and she’s an incredible addition to the Attack side.

Wamai is interesting because he’s not so much into the world of firearms, instead he has the Mag-Net System that pretty much makes him R6’s Magneto, which is pretty heckin’ cool. With the use of magnets, he can deflect projectiles, reroute grenades back to the enemy, and so much more. He’s going to be one of those Defenders that if you don’t know how to use him, you’re going to hate him, but once you figure it out – he’s the best. Basically, the Teemo of trolling characters.

The Theme Park map also got a bit of a makeover. According to Ubisoft, “The Rail Platform has been removed and the East and West sections have been brought closer together. Inside the building, the East section has largely evolved, primarily the downstairs area. Gargoyle and Haunting Dining bomb sites are replaced with the Throne Room and Armory pair. The new Gong Room in this area also becomes the main entrance, while the Arcade Entrance is now blocked.”

As for the more general tweaks:

GADGET TRAJECTORY ASSET DESTRUCTION

We’re in the process of updating breakable props across all our maps to be more structured in how they are destroyed when they are in the pathway of gadget projectiles and missiles. The goal is to make destruction of various elements across maps more coherent for players. This first iteration should allow projectiles to break fragile props that would otherwise block their path (ex: Grenades, C4, etc.).

GADGET CODE OPTIMIZATION

With the new season, we’ve improved the coding logic for a number of primary and secondary gadgets to protect against potential regressions and widen their capacity for future complexity.

These backend changes will not impact your experience using the gadgets.

CASUAL RENAMED TO QUICK MATCH

Casual is now called Quick Match. Same game mode, new name.

QUICK MATCH + NEWCOMER ROLE SWAP

Quick Match (previously Casual) and Newcomer playlists will adopt the AA-DD role swap. Similar to Ranked, players will swap roles once a match.

PLAYLIST GUIDES

You will now be able to find all the information you need about a game mode in the new Playlist Guides! Newcomer, Quick Match (previously casual) and Unranked game modes will now have Playlist Guides similar to the Ranked guides.

OPERATOR VOICEOVERS

The Operator voices for Hibana and Mira have been re-recorded with new voice actors. We are thankful to the voice actors that we worked with up to this point, but with the expansion of our Universe content, we needed to make adjustments to our talent line up to ensure consistency.

You can learn more about the framework of the new operators and the rest of the changes that Shifting Tides brings with the full patch notes right here. As for the game itself, Rainbow Six Siege is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
