To reach these lofty goals, you’ll need to master the fine arts of raising Pokémon and battling with them. You’ve come to the right place, because this chapter is dedicated to helping you become the best Trainer the Kalos region has ever seen!
New in the Game
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y boast many new features that you’ll want to know about. This section brings you up to speed on these all-new, exciting features.
Pokédex types
Anyone who’s played a Pokémon game knows what a Pokédex is for. This vital device records critical data on every Pokémon encountered during the adventure. In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the Kalos region is loaded with Pokémon, so you’ll end up with three different classifications of the Pokédex by the time you get to the Pokémon League!
Central Kalos Pokédex:
This Pokédex records data on the many Pokémon who are encountered around the heart of Kalos.
Coastal Kalos Pokédex:
Once you reach Kalos’s breathtaking coastline, your Pokédex will be upgraded to include Coastal Kalos Pokédex entries.
Mountain Kalos Pokédex:
The moment you begin to explore Kalos’s towering mountains, your Pokédex will be enhanced to include data on the Pokémon that dwell in these scenic locations.
Customize your look
The very first time you play Pokémon X or Pokémon Y, you get to customize your character’s appearance. First, decide if you want to play as a male or female character, and then select a skin tone. Later, you’ll be able to change your hairstyle and other options, including your hair color, eye color, and clothing. To perfect your look, visit the many clothing boutiques around the region.
The gender that you select at the game’s onset determines the gender of a valued friend who appears at many points during your adventure. If you choose the male character, you will journey with Serena, while those who choose the female character share their experiences with Calem.
Roller Skates
Kalos is a sprawling region full of bustling cities, quaint little towns, and many other intriguing locations in between. Exploring this huge region on foot is a time-consuming process, but never fear—you’ll receive some snazzy Roller Skates early in your adventure to help you get around.
After you score your Roller Skates, use the Circle Pad to skate around at a swift pace. Roller Skates can be used practically anywhere outdoors, but they often aren’t available while exploring indoor areas. They also don’t roll very well through some terrains, like sand and tall grass, so remember that you can always kick off your wheels with the +Control Pad, and dash around using (B).
