Just because a system drops in price one place doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to do so in another.
A couple of days following the news that Sony of Japan would be lowering the price of both its 3G and Wi-Fi models of the PlayStation Vita to 19,980 yen (around $215), Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida stated that the U.S. won’t be seeing a similar price drop, mainly because the exchange rate across countries. (The recent announcement that the Vita would act as a second screen for the forthcoming PlayStation 4 might be part of it as well.)
That’s a shame, because a price drop for the States would’ve been a mighty one-two punch for the company, especially following the momentum of its PS4 announcement. Who knows, though…we just might see one at E3 that comes out of nowhere. Or maybe that “new” model with rumored HDMI support…
