The wait is finally over; one of the most acclaimed RPGs in Nintendo’s history is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch. Fans have been screaming for Nintendo to revisit the glory days of the Paper Mario series for what feels like years, and boy, are Nintendo ready to deliver with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on Nintendo Switch.
From the initial sight of Rougeport, I was ready to scream. Was this a sequel, or a remaster of the original game that stole my heart many moons ago? After seeing the returning faces and the crew I knew to love in my childhood years, I was beyond thrilled to see that Nintendo was bringing back the world of The Thousand-Year Door once more.
Featuring some of the best combat to come out of any of their previously published RPGs, The Thousand-Year Door has had a following for a fair number of reasons. Quirky party members that never fail to bring a smile to your face, alongside a world that continues to be built around you in both a literal and metaphorical sense, it feels like the series has never reached the heights of this Gamecube classic since its release.
As one of the more expensive games in the Gamecube collection to try and obtain today, it’s great to see that players who will be experiencing this world for the first time, or the 20th, will have the chance to finally do so. While no details were shared about changes or additions to the game, it’s a classic in the Mario franchise that deserves a second shot at life.
While we are beyond excited to return to the beautiful world of Rougeport once again, we’re going to need to hold onto our horses for just a little while longer. While the game looks and runs fantastic from what was shown, we don’t have much in terms of a release date beyond 2024. However, we’ve been waiting this long, what’s a few more months?
