The little micro OUYA console continues to progress along on its Kickstarter campaign, and as it moves into the final days, we see that its total is well over $6 million and climbing. Popularity achieved.
In a recent post on the Kickstarter page, the company revealed the size for the system – and dang, it’s small. We’re talking the size of a Rubik’s Cube, as you can see in the photo above. On the bright side, you still have room for your hulking PlayStation 3 system and boombox. Big plus there.
Meanwhile, the team has announced that it has partnered up with the XBMC team to bring a new media player to the system, which should be ready around launch time. It will feature 40 different languages and a number of streaming features.
Nathan Betzen of the XBMC team stated, “Maybe it was inevitable. Maybe it was because of the hundreds, if not thousands, of demands on Twitter, in blogs, on Facebook, in Reddit, and in Kickstarter comments. Maybe it’s because many of Team OUYA support XBMC, and nearly a third of Team XBMC members are OUYA backers.
“Regardless, we are delighted to announce that XBMC will be working with OUYA to ensure that XBMC works well on the OUYA platform. OUYA’s Android underpinnings and XBMC’s work on Android (soon to be merged into master, pending final sign-offs!) will dramatically speed up that effort, as will early XBMC dev access to OUYA prototypes.”
Congrats to both sides. Now give us a system already! You can still buy one at the KickStarter page at this link.
