The original Final Fantasy VII adventure took the gaming world by storm back in ’97 and was hailed for its incredible storytelling and characters we couldn’t help but to fall for. With that in mind, Square Enix took up the mantel once more to bring an updated version of the tale to the masses and it was glorious. From the detailed animations to the more fleshed-out character designs, the remake truly took what was incredible and made it even more so. That being said, not everyone was prepared for some of the changes and with the next part of the game still shrouded in mystery, some were concerned.

Twitter user ‘aitaikimochi‘ took to the platform to share a quite by Kitase where he aimed to comfort fans regarding the latest Final Fantasy experience. Kitase mentioned, “We’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original. Even though it’s a Remake, please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has.”

With Redd being playable, Sephiroth’s battle far from over, and that character making his grand appearance near the end, it’s obvious that there is so much more to the Final Fantasy VII Remake than what fans have been able to uncover. Still, it’s always nice to have the reassurance that Square Enix isn’t taking a story we love so dearly and gutting it in the name of fan-service.

After wrapping up my time with the remake as an avid lover of the original, I was absolutely floored by the plethora of emotions that poured from me when the end-credits rolled. The feeling of coming full circle was overwhelming and I was instantly inspired to go for round two on the newly unlocked hard mode. This isn’t a copy/paste formula of the original but it’s also not a completely separate entity as well. The Final Fantasy VII Remake truly was a love letter to fans and an open invitation for newcomers to come and fall in love with these characters like we did back in the 90s.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available now exclusively on the PlayStation 4, though a recent trailer and previous listings do hint at an Xbox One and PC release sometime down the line.
