Nintendo’s Wii U Online Services Will Be Free

Pricing and release date information is expected later this fall. Finally!

After a slightly-criticized E3 showing, Nintendo is looking to get back in gamers’ good graces again, and today it made the first steps towards doing so.

During a recent shareholders meeting within the company, Nintendo confirmed that all online services for the upcoming Wii U device will be free of charge.  This includes online gaming and other social services, without the need to pay an additional fee…like, ahem, Xbox Live.  President Satoru Iwata stated that the free online services of the Wii U will directly result in better hardware and software sales for the upcoming console in the long run.  We shall see…

In addition, the company stated that it will be holding a press conference this fall that will finally unveil the date and price for the system.  Though an exact date wasn’t given, it’s going to happen sooner rather than later, around September.  In addition, the company will announce various games that it has planned for 2013.

Steps in the right direction though we want more info, guys!  C’mon!
