Niantic and Nintendo Introduce Pikmin Bloom for Mobile Devices

Is this the Pikmin metaverse?

As Pokemon GO continues to be a giant in the world of AR and mobile gaming, something new is just around the corner. Niantic and Nintendo have collaborated on a new AR game based on the Pikmin series, titled Pikmin Bloom. In this game, players will collect the little creatures, feed them nectar and manage their “gardens.”

Pikmin Bloom was announced by Niantic late yesterday, and the game itself has emerged in “soft launch” form in certain territories. Australia and Singapore can play Pikmin Bloom right now on iOS or Android, while everyone else will have to wait a little. It was only a matter of days for Pokemon GO to exit soft launch, so it could be any day now.

In the meantime, you can check out this introductory video from Niantic, which features Pikmon creator and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto. Watch it below:

In Pikmin Bloom, players will lead a trail of Pikmin creatures, which follow them as they walk and find things like fruit to feed on. The little critters plant things like flowers along your walking path, feeding into a community effort to spread plants around and take pictures to share.
