Overview
Few familiars in the world of Ni no Kuni are as imposing and impressive-looking as the Dinoceros. Not only is it one of the largest familiars in the game but it possesses overwhelming physical abilities that allow it to crush lesser foes with ease.
Proper Care and Feeding
Attack +10
Magic Defense +10
Accuracy +30
Dinoceros has an outstanding physical attack score and decent defense stats which help with its lack of the Defend command. Instead, Dinoceros has Psych Up! and Go Wild!, speeding up an otherwise slow attack speed and significantly increasing the damage it does with each strike. Because of these things, it is important to focus on accuracy. Since Dinoceros is a very slow attacker, each attack is important. A few points into Magic Defense to shore it up a bit and the rest into Attack make Dinoceros capable of absolutely crushing your enemies.
Metamorphosis
Dinoceros is unique in that it has a maximum level far below other familiars. Its first form reaches full growth at only level 10, though it requires much more EXP than others for each level. When you are ready to metamorphose a second time, your choices are Demoliceros and Catasroceros.
Demoliceros is a form you may well be familiar with if you’ve explored the Ivory Tower, since they appear throughout. Of the two final forms, Demoliceros possesses a higher defense and is a fire element familiar. It learns some strong fire elemental tricks as well as the devastating physical tricks it shares with the other forms.
Catasroceros on the other hand, has the highest attack score of the two forms. Despite being a water elemental familiar, the only non-physical trick it learns is storm elemental. Also notable is that it learns Healthy Glow as it levels, giving it a moderately powerful healing trick to compliment its raw physical power

Best Buddies
Whichever route you take Dinoceros, it is important to keep in mind that it serves a fairly one dimensional purpose. Dinoceros exists to crush anything and everything that stands in front of it. Because it is a Dracones family familiar you will almost certainly want to pair it with Oliver for the affinity boost. Try putting it on a team with a quicker and more durable familiar like Little Big Horn or a fast familiar with high defense like Sillymander.
Tips and Tricks
Despite that it’s not much more than a wrecking ball with legs, there is a nifty trick to try with it. Pair it with a fast familiar like Mite or Sillymander. Use the quicker familiar to close the distance to your target then switch to Dinoceros. It will be deployed exactly where your previous familiar was! This will let you close in on faster enemies or bosses without losing time waiting for Dinoceros to march across the battlefield. Do you have a favorite trick or a handy tip you’d like to share regarding your Dinoceros? Maybe you have a familiar combination you like to use with it?
