The rumor mill has been in full force when it comes to what the next Call of Duty game will be. Will it be a new direction altogether, or the highly speculated next Modern Warfare? We’ll be learning soon enough because Activision has just revealed that an announcement is imminent following a big NFL private event regarding the next phase of this franchise.
Activision has previously stated that the next Call of Duty would be “rooted in some of the franchise’s most important history,” which made previous Modern Warfare rumors flare up exponentially. During a recent earnings call held by the company, president Rob Kostich mentioned that the next Call of Duty would be arriving in its usual timeframe and the announcement could be happening anytime between next week and June 30th.
A bit of a gap there, but with EA Play situated at E3 this year, it’s likely the reveal will happen before then. He also mentioned, “feel incredibly good about this year’s game coming from Infinity Ward [and] I think it’s going to be really clear why we’re really so excited about the release.”
While we don’t know exactly what the next phase will bring, there have been numerous supports that have helped paint a picture. No battle royale has been the biggest feature, as well as various reports about their single-player campaign. The most common rumor is that it won’t have its own set single-player story, instead a mix of previous Modern Warfares. Luckily, all will be revealed here soon. If previous events are anything to go by, it should be here in the next couple of weeks.
