It feels like every week we’re announcing yet another videogame adaptation coming to either the big screen or to Netflix. Another title has just been added to that growing list of shows with a brand new Cuphead Netflix comedy series officially revealed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and King Features Syndicate are heading this new project with an animated show based on the deceptively challenging video game. Titled The Cuphead Show, Netflix is aiming to take the Studio MDHR hit and translate that into television gold. Given that the game itself was inspired by retro cartoons, that translation will fit much better than most adaptations and will be an interesting change following The Witcher’s Netflix debut.
The site also reports that it will focus heavily on the comedic aspect of the Cuphead characters. This is a project I’m very excited about personally. I’ve known about it for a few months and to finally be able to talk about it is exciting! From my own sources, Carmen Sandiego’s CJ Kettler is taking point as executive producer with the Cuphead creators on site as executive producers from the Studio MDHR side.
Rocko’s Modern Life’s Cosmo Segurson is also onboard as a co-executive producer, rounding out a pretty passionate team for the latest project in the Cuphead-verse. We don’t have a release window at this time, though we do have confirmation that it’s on the way and hopefully marks another huge success for the dev team.
