The world saw a new female Lombax in the reveal trailer for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and instantly fell in love. Though we don’t know much about this mysterious character, we do know that she is confirmed to be playable from the folks over at Insomniac Games.
While the game’s main protagonist is still very much the focus, Insomniac Games did confirm that this new character would be a secondary playable option when Rift Apart makes its grand debut. The confirmation that she would be playable was short and sweet, and unfortunately with no context. Still, the go-ahead that she has a more significant role in the upcoming game seemed to delight many. The only downside is that it literally took less than 4 hours before rule 34 came into full effect.
Even better than the new characters from the Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart reveal was just how truly stunning the showcase was. This was one of the several game trailers that truly showed off the power of the PlayStation 5 and what ray tracing means for games not necessarily rooted in realism. You can learn more about which games were putting ray tracing to the test with our previous coverage here.
Sony showed off quite a few exclusives during their previous showcase, but Sony’s Jim Ryan clarified post-showcase that it’s not about quantity of exclusives, it’s about the value of them as experiences. “Exclusive games are obviously one point of difference between our system and others,” said Ryan during a recent interview. ‘But I really call out the criteria of quality rather than necessarily exclusivity. And when I look at our worldwide studios, it’s really the quality of the work that they produce that counts.”
