It’s been a bit of a bumpy ride for Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher as filming had to be pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, a cheerful, happy update has been shared as it’s confirmed that Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 has finished filming.
Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 Has Finished Filming
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Netflix’s The Witcher following its initial airing back in December of 2019. It’s taken time and effort to film Season 2, a process made even more complicated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pushing through, the team has finally been able to complete the filming process for Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher. That’s right, filming has officially wrapped up! To celebrate the momentous milestone, a behind-the-scenes trailer was uploaded to the official Netflix YouTube channel.
In it, you can get a feel for what the filming process has been like with showrunner Lauren Hissrich remarking on how filming has included safety protocols like face masks, face shields, goggles, and hand sanitizer.
In the description of the video, the size and scope of the filming process is further emphasized, noting filming included 15 locations, 89 cast members, and 1,200 crew members.

In the video, it’s explained that Season 2 will pick up where the first season left off at The Battle of Sodden Hill. It’ll include a return of characters like Geralt (of course), along with Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier. The show’s story will expand out and will include content from, “Blood of Elves and beyond.”
As mentioned in the past, Netflix’s The Witcher is based more around the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski rather than the series of games from CD Projekt Red.
Blood of Elves is the third book in Sapkowski’s series, following The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, and in it we get more development between Ciri and Geralt, with Geralt taking her to Kaer Morhen to be trained by other witchers.
It’s there that she’ll meet Vesemir and Triss Merigold. This is noted in the logline for Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher (per Variety), which reads:
“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
The idea of seeing locations like Kaer Morhen brought to life, and the possibility of meeting characters like Triss, has us extremely excited for the arrival of Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher. Unfortunately, an exact air date has yet to be provided.
All we know is that Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher will air sometime in 2021. While it’s possible we could see Season 2 before December of 2021, it’d be a full circle sort of situation for Season 2 to air in December, a full two years after the first season took Netflix viewers by storm.
