Netflix The Witcher Spin-Off Series Announced, Set 1200 Years Before Geralt

While Lauren Hissrich and her crew get ready to begin filming the Netflix The Witcher season 2, the team made a surprise reveal regarding another product the showrunner is working on: a 6-episode The Witcher spin-off series sets 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia took center stage. 

The news came by way of Twitter, saying “1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.”

The official The Witcher account retweeted the initial reveal, adding “Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part, live-action The Witcher spinoff series, set in the 1200 years prior to its story. Brought to you by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.”

The 6-part series doesn’t have any casting news to share quite yet, but we’re excited to learn more about the long line of Witchers outside of the characters we met in-game while exploring more of the lore found in the books themselves. 

“As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin,” mentioned executive producer Declan de Barra in a recent press statement. “A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books – What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall.”
