MW3 Zombies is a Mix of Outbreak and DMZ

Demilitarized Zombies

With the Global Reveal of Modern Warfare 3, the latest Zombies mode was also given some attention, even if it is minimal. In MW3, Zombies will be a mix of the Outbreak mode from Black Ops Cold War and DMZ. That means it all takes place on the Warzone map, but there are some extraction elements within.

MW3 Zombies will have around four teams of six players on the map when the game begins. Those teams will have one hour to get the loot they want and then extract, much like DMZ. The official Call of Duty X account mentioned large teams on the map and the objective of surviving or extracting as you complete missions. In essence, this is exactly how DMZ is played, only this time there are deadly zombies running around the map and maybe some monkey bombs.

Other YouTubers, such as JGOD, were able to see MW3 early and get first impressions of the game. In his latest video about Modern Warfare 3 impressions, he confirmed Zombies is on the way. However, they were only given details rather than actual gameplay. Aside from the confirmation of classic mechanics like the Mystery Box, or the continuation of the Dark Aether story, details were minimal on the extraction aspect.

JGOD confirmed the large teams, but another interesting point was the lack of PvP. MW3 Zombies will be exclusively PvE. That means no more hunting squads in this kind of mode, unless Sledgehammer Games decides to continue the support for DMZ that MW2 started.

So far, there is no word on whether DMZ will continue in MW3 or not. Even JGOD mentioned that there was no discussion of the mode at the impressions event. However, Warzone itself has barely had any information come out, so there is still a small chance that DMZ could remain.

Zombies aren’t the only thing returning to MW3. Slide canceling will also return, and it won’t be exactly the same.
