There has been no official announcement from the company itself but various sources have confirmed the increase.

The rumor had, earlier this week, been circulated by Xbox360Achievements.org and has since been confirmed by Kotaku.

New rules will allow each boxed game to offer a minimum of 5, and a maximum of 50 Achievements for a total of 1000 Gamerscore. The possibility of up to 30 achievements will be granted from downloadable content with a maximum of 750 Gamerscore.

Sources in the UK tell of contradictions in the current software development kit’s documentation,  though this is understood by developers to most likely be due to the proposed changes in the rules.

Before now, developers were told to limit gamers to 1000 gamerpoints on the original disk with a maximum of 250 gamerpoints on DLC. Games such as Halo 3 and Fallout 3 have been contributing factors in making Microsoft reconsider previous limitations.
