Earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft introduced us to a fun downloadable fighting game based on Starz’ Spartacus series, featuring a lot of bloody action and plenty of interesting characters.  While we’re still putting the finishing touches on an upcoming preview, we’ve learned that the game will be a lot more accessible than previously thought, as it’ll be free-to-play.

Ubisoft and Microsoft have announced that Spartacus Legends will be the latest game on the Xbox Live Arcade service that will be free-to-play, joining the previously announced Ascend: New Gods and Happy Wars.  The game is slated for release later this year, and will be arriving on PlayStation Network in early 2013 as well — and that will be free, too.

It’s good to see Microsoft is expanding its library to include a few free-to-play game experiences, especially something as visceral and enjoyable as Spartacus.  Let’s see if they can keep up the trend, shall we?

Look for more info on Spartacus Legends, too.
