We’ve been waiting (somewhat patiently) for the announcement of the Mass Effect remaster. The long-rumored game has just taken one more step towards reality. A new listing on a Portuguese retailer is making the rounds. You guessed it; it’s the Mass Effect Remaster box art and price.
While both of these things could simply be placeholders, it’s given fans hope they may one day finally return to the Normandy. The image of said box art can be viewed below.

The box art appears to be based on the Xbox 360 version of the game (Editor’s note: Yep, Nibel mistakenly thought the logo was new), but Nibel on Twitter confirms that the listings are, in fact, new. The product pages have also been taken down, indicating that it was not supposed to be up yet.

There is still no official word from EA even confirming that this project exists, but at this point, it’s one of the worst kept secrets in gaming. Every day we get one step closer to physically manifesting this game, and every leak points us one step closer.
Now, something else that’s important to note here is that not only does the Switch version exist, but it’s cheaper. This could simply be another mistake on the part of the retailer, or it could not be. As always with this sort of stuff, it’s essential to take all of it with a grain of salt.
Despite everything, though, fans are excited, and the hype is palpable. The bigger question, though, is who are you going to romance in this remaster? You absolutely know I’ll be team Garrus forever, but with the potential of a whole new generation of Mass Effect fans, it will be interesting to see the discourse around best romance take a unique shape.

One thing remains certain, though. The love for Mass Effect has cultivated and inspired a large community. Paragon or Renegade, this series is vital to many, and its legacy stands the test of time. With these remasters, it could do the same for a whole new audience who may have missed out on the trilogy the first time around.
