The Last Guardian Trademark Abandoned, But Sony Insists Game Is Still In Development

The turbulent story of Team Ico’s The Last Guardian continues on. Now if Sony would just say something officially about it....

Word broke out yesterday that the official trademark page for the upcoming game The Last Guardian, which has been delayed for an awful long time following the departure of certain team members, has listed the project as “abandoned”. (Link: http://www.trademarkia.com/the-last-guardian-77750563.html) This means that Sony no longer has the title set under their control…a concerning factor considering the uncertain state of the project.

However, when Sony was asked if the project was indeed scuttled, they stated that it was still in development and no further announcements were being made at this time. So it’s not officially canned by any means, but the fact that the trademark hasn’t been renewed could mean bad stuff in its future…or maybe something as simple as a name change.

Perhaps we’ll know more next week at GamesCom, when the company is expected to make some big announcements. We’ll let you know what’s happening with The Last Guardian – if anything – in later news updates. Let’s just hope it finds its way to PS3 sooner rather than later…
