Kojima has promised that his studio, Kojima Productions, will have “something new to announce for Metal Gear Solid 4” at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, there’ll be a teaser and “something from PS3”. There’s previously been no trailer featuring in-game footage, so it sounds likely that this might be when we’re finally  treated to some.

Kojima said in the interview that “Everybody will probably [want] to make everything more realistic in terms of graphics and sound with the next-generation hardware, but what I want to do is something a little different… to make it a little more natural with a natural flow when creating a world. Not just upgrading graphically. I’m looking forward to the new hardware to make that.”

Kojima commented on how he’s very happy with the fact that fans and press are eagerly awaiting a trailer for MGS4, and talked on how he thinks he’ll create a game better than the last.

“To overcome myself is quite easy, so I’ll probably just have to do it again for Metal Gear Solid 4”.

On whether the Metal Gear series will ever appear on formats aside from Sony’s, Kojima was a little cagey on details, “everyone in Japan has a good feeling” on the Xbox 360, and “The support of Microsoft in Japan is really strong.”

Kojima explained that there were originally no plans for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, but apparently the interest from European fans was massive.

Apparently Subsistence will, despite the online nature of the game, have “the Metal Gear feeling”.

The game will be a “trial” to test how audiences react to the idea of online Metal Gear play. There’s also to be a completely 3D camera in the game, but you’ll be able to change to the regular mode whenever you like.

Kojima talked of how, despite generally being pleased with the game, he wishes recent PSP release Metal Gear Acid was a little better on the visuals:
“Originally when we started to create Metal Gear Acid for the PSP… we thought [it] was a little bit more of a cool tool, a fashionable tool, meaning we wanted to… make it pop with more colour to make it more appealing to new audiences who will have that new hardware. We’ll upgrade this more in Metal Gear Acid 2, which will fit more of my original plan, which was to make [it] a little bit more colourful and fashionable.”

Keep checking back for more information on Metal Gear Solid 4 as we get it.
